Word from inside is that Frank Wilson needs to win and show some real improvement in the first 3 games this year or he's out. Given that the first 3 games are UIW, Baylor (in Waco), and Army, he's got a tall order.
No one can seriously expect to win at Baylor. Could it happen? Sure, but it can't realistically be expected. UIW should be an easy win for any decent FBS team, but if it's not, the burner will be started. Add in a non-competitive showing against Baylor like many UTSA fans saw in so many games last year and you have the makings of a must-win scenario at home against Army.
Army, which runs a non-traditional triple-option offense is a handful for any team. In fact, many top-tier teams struggle with them simply due to not seeing such an offense but very rarely. If UTSA can't move the ball and get a few cheap scores, it could be as ugly of a game (given the offense UTSA fans have seen the last 2 years), as anyone can imagine.
Ticket sales for both of the early out of conference home games are reported to be brisk, so attendance should be good. Add the possibility of the ugliest game imaginable in front of a large home crowd and the makings of an early season uproar from donors, alumni, and fans is extremely high.
Given that scenario, Wilson may have pull off a 2-1 or 3-0 start to survive.
